How Do I Figure Out What To Sell On eBay?

December 27, 2009 By: Joel Holmes Category: Internet Business

By far the most common question I hear when someone starting out is “what do I sell on eBay?” What’s the best answer to that question? I’ll tell you in a minute. Before I can answer that, let me explain why a lot of people get stuck here. (I’ve been there too, it’s an easy place to get stuck.)

This problem comes up because an eBay business is a product business. If you don’t have products to sell on eBay, then you probably don’t have an eBay business at all. You need to buy product at a price that will give you good profit margins. It’s the simple model of buy low and sell high. Before you say that you “already know that” listen up.

Someone who would get stuck figuring out which product to buy would also be someone who might get stuck on which stock to buy. Let’s say we want to buy stocks. It’s the same model as buying product for eBay, right? It’s to buy it for a low price and sell it for a higher price. Whether it’s a company stock or an product to sell on eBay, you need to figure it out in the same way.

Think about what makes a really successful stock trader. They can see which stocks are going to go up. They look at what the market is doing right now, they look at what the price of the stock is, and they make the call.

A good trader will tell you that they aren’t looking at one particular stock all the time. Instead, they are looking for certain qualities to find the next great stock. They know what those qualities are and then they train themselves to look for those qualities. They filter through the thousands of options to find the real winners. You need to do the same thing on eBay. You need to know what to look for and then always be looking for it.

What’s the key ingredient to find products? By far, it’s having the mindset. You need the training to see the opportunities. Once you can recognize opportunities, you’ll be prepared for them when they arrive. There are literally countless products all around you that you can sell. You just can’t see them yet. The main thing you need to do is to get yourself in that “seller’s mindset” so you can.

Maybe you still don’t know what to sell on eBay yet.

If you’re absolutely brand new to eBay, you need to get started before you worry about what you sell. My recommendation? Look close to home. Is there an area of your house that is cluttered? Check your attic, closets, or basement. Instead of having a yard sale, see if you can sell it on eBay. You’ll start to build your feedback ratings. You’ll gain valuable experience as an eBay entrepreneur. Then, cultivate that “seller’s mindset.
