What Things Should Be Considered In Giving Corporate Gifts?

February 09, 2010 By: Kurt Brody Category: Internet Business

Giving personal gifts is a shade different from giving gifts with corporate gift giving. We have a tendency to think that it is the thought that counts when we purchase gifts meant for individuals with whom we are in close contact with. Usually, we scrimp on the amount we are willing to shell out while at the same time take the effort to ensure that what we are getting is something that the recipient would be pleased to have. In corporate gift giving, however, cheap tokens will always be spotted, and may insult the sensitivities of the recipient. Corporate gift giving is an art that has to be perfected for it to do contribute success to our business.

Corporate gifts are typically costly things and they do not carry any business symbol or brand name, as they are not meant for marketing or promotion. However, companies often conduct marketing through distribution of merchandise like pens, mouse pads, dongles, and other gifts to the staff and potential customers.

Corporate gifts should be chosen according to the needs and desires of the person for whom it is being purchased for. Business gifts should always be chosen with the receiver in mind. There is no point giving a gift – especially a corporate gift – to someone who will not appreciate what we have given. We should be looking to create a ‘WOW’ wherever possible.

The perceived worth of a corporate gift is its most crucial aspect. It is this factor which has the desired impact on the customer or employee, which aids in developing and maintaining a cordial working association with them. Prior to giving a corporate gift, you should confer with your legal department about any restrictions that may have been imposed by law on this practice.

It’s advisable to prepare for corporate gift-giving in advance by setting a budget, estimating the number of gifts to procure, and hunting for bulk deals with retailers. This is clearly more useful in case of gifts to employees, especially if yours is a large-sized company. You should procure the correct number of gifts so that no employee whom you plan to appreciate is missed out.

But don’t forget to keep the law and expense related elements in mind when giving corporate gifts
